4BC axes Breakfast duo

Dean Miller and Sofie Formica are out; Jason Matthews is in.

Radio 4BC has announced the following changes:

Jason Matthews will move from Mornings to Breakfast, replacing Dean Miller and Sofie Formica

Gary Hardgrave will move from Drive to Mornings.

Carla Bignasca will move from Afternoons to Drive.

Michael McLaren will be networked from 2GB in the Afternoons shift.

Step Outside with Paul Burt will be replaced by The Garden Clinic from 2GB.

In a memo to staff, station manager Siobhain Ryan said:

These changes will have an impact on our programming teams, including a reduction of some local roles. We are currently working through the impact and will consult with individual employees over the coming days.

I know this is another change for 4BC, and today’s news will be difficult. We spoke with the teams earlier today, and our immediate priority is supporting them as we move through this challenging period of change for 4BC.

These decisions are never easy and are absolutely no reflection on the talented people impacted. They have each made an important contribution to 4BC, and I want to sincerely thank them for their passion, professionalism, and hard work.

As part of these changes, we will farewell Dean and Sofie from Breakfast. Dean and Sofie have worked tirelessly to connect with Brisbane listeners. We thank them for everything they have given the station and wish them every success.

Tapt Media CEO Tom Malone said in a separate memo: “While some networking of shows from 2GB has been unavoidable in this change, we know the Brisbane audience will be well served by Michael McLaren and The Garden Clinic.

“We remain committed to; 4BC, a national talk network, and sustainable live and local content wherever possible.”

Update: Ryan has said these changes, which take effect on Monday, are temporary until the end of the year. What comes next? I’ll have some thoughts about that in my next post.
