Congratulations to Siobhain Ryan, who has been promoted to station manager of Radio 4BC.
This seems to me like a positive move because it underscores new owner Tapt Media’s commitment to the Brisbane market and to giving authority to somebody who is actually based in the River City.
As I’ve said many times, much of the station’s problems can be linked to bad decisions made in Sydney.
A Tapt Media press release says, in part:
Tapt Media has announced the appointment of Siobhain Ryan (née McDonnell) to the role of Station Manager for 4BC. The move underscores Tapt Media’s commitment to the Brisbane market and its ongoing strategy of delivering the very best in live and local news, sport, culture and opinion.
Tapt Media is building on its network’s strong foundations by investing directly in local leadership across the country. A key priority of this network-wide strategy is backing 4BC’s talk format to fully capitalise on the significant growth potential within the Brisbane region.
In her new role, Ryan assumes responsibility for building 4BC’s presence in Brisbane. This includes driving local content, expanding local partnerships, securing new business opportunities, and collaborating with key local decision-makers to ensure the station remains deeply ingrained in the community.
Ryan, who has 17 years of experience in media and has been content manager at the station, is quoted as saying:
“I first walked into 4BC as a teenager and was hooked from day one, working my way up through roles in work experience, producing, and content management. To now take on the role of Station Manager is a great honour.
“4BC is a heritage brand in our city, and I look forward to growing the station and delivering for our audience. Commercial talk radio has a massive part to play in shaping Brisbane, and I am excited to lead the team as we head towards milestone events like the 2032 Olympics.”
Her appointment raises the question of whether 4BC will now appoint a local content manager, and who that might be.
