Are you feeling the Brisbane Festival vibe? Or, with the possible exception of the fireworks, will it have zero effect on your life?
On the subject of fireworks, rather than ending with a bang, the festival starts with Riverfire this year. The idea, apparently, is that by not being in the school-holiday period, it allows more families to enjoy the experienced (rather than excluding those who’ve gone elsewhere for the break).
I feel obliged at this point to remind people that, as much as I love the performing and visual arts, I miss the community element that was so much a part of Warana, which preceded the Brisbane Festival.
I’d like to know how many people in Brisbane feel that the festival speaks to them, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
CRUISING CAPERS
In my last newsletter, I wrote about the Pacific Encounter. In my next one, I’ll be able to give you a first-hand account of this new ship is calling Brisbane home.
I’ll be taking a four-night Pacific cruise (to Airlie Beach and back) from Tuesday, and I’m quite excited about that.
I also hope to book to a cruise on the Carnival Luminosa later this year — and I have a credit voucher to put towards a Royal Caribbean cruise when Quantum of the Seas starts sailing out of Brisbane.
FEEDBACK
My aforementioned item about the Pacific Encounter raised some hackles with people who are unimpressed with the behaviour of P&O Ferries in the UK, which has sacked all its staff and replaced them with lower-paid contractors. I can confidently report that neither P&O Australia, which operates the Encounter, nor P&O Cruises in the UK have anything to do with the ferry company. The cruise lines are part of the American-owned Carnival Corporation.
QUESTION TIME
Do you have one of these? When did you last use it?
