Broadcaster Philip Brady has died at the age of 85, just a month after hosting his last program on Melbourne talk radio station 3AW.
He was best known in Melbourne for his long-running Nightline program, and more recently the nostalgia-driven Remember When.
But he was also a regular presence on television screens across the country.
Brady, who died of cancer, used to spend a lot of time in Brisbane when he was hosting the TV quiz Casino 10 in the 1970s.
My memory of him is reading a newspaper story about how he caught a train out to Ferny Grove to kill time between show recordings.
Because of his youthful looks, the then 30-something Brady was mistaken for a student wagging school.
Brady was one of a kind, but also part of a cohort of broadcasters who could turn their hand to anything on radio and TV.
As well as Casino 10, he fronted the game shows Concentration, Everybody’s Talking, Moneymakers, Junior Moneymakers, Get the Message and Password.
