A few weeks ago, I wrote about the treat some people call a Long John but I insist on calling a jam and cream donut. Well, I’ve been to the bakery again — and discovered the item pictured on the left.
I’ve already asked the hive mind at Twitter what they call it, and the consensus seems to be that it’s a cream bun (or a jam and cream bun).
The thing is, though, the bakery where I made my purchase (Bakers Delight at Windsor) called it a Boston bun. In my recollections from childhood, a Boston bun has pink icing on top.
Meanwhile, I bought some fish and chips for the first time in ages. I ordered the seafood basket, with a side order of potato scallops. .(Yes, we’re in Queensland, they are called scallops.)
The basket also came with breaded scallops — which I took to mean the actual shellfish called a scallop. Of the two, one of them appeared to be the real deal, but the thing pictured on the right is something else altogether. Any ideas?

FEEDBACK
On the subject of the closure of Toombul, Michael asked about the future of the bus interchange. Does anybody have a definitive answer to that?
Scott says: “Sad to see Toombul go. It was such an easy place to shop. We drove around Chermside a few Saturdays ago and gave up trying to find a park after half an hour.”
Lisa: “It's so sad. So much a part of northside history. My Grandmother and Mum met there each week to do their shopping together. We would watch for Nan coming through the Walton's doors as we sat on those ufo-shaped moulded plastic seats. I can still see her walking towards us.
“We got a favourite cat from the pet shop (many yrs ago when such things were done). She cost $5. We joked that my brother and I owned an ear each.
“As I got older and night shopping was introduced it was a place for teens to meet and flirt. We spent a lot of time flipping through albums at Toombul Music.
“As my mother got older - she has now passed - I would take her Toombul and we would reminisce about the changes over the years even though it still felt so familiar. Toombul was more than a shopping centre. It was the hub of a community for a long time. Vale Toombul.”
On the closure of 4KQ (which may or may not be mitigated by 4BH’s decision to switch to a classic hits format) to make way for a sports station, Dianne wrote: “I'm very sad and for goodness sake, what a loss of music just for middle aged sportsman guffawing at their own jokes.” And Nicholas says: “I remember Ken Brown doing the Coast watch on 4KQ every weekend and Friday. And I remember Jay Lane doing 4KQ Traffic as well. And I remember Jo Hayes doing 4KQ news as well. So very sad.”
