Brisbane TV and radio superstar Frank Warrick has died at the age of 76. Channel Seven announced that Warrick died on the morning of Tuesday, May 11, with his family around him. His long-time news-reading partner, Kay McGrath, said: “My sincere condolences to Frank’s wife Lyn and family.
“We had a very successful 13-year, on-air relationship during the ’80s and ’90s when 6pm news was a ritual for viewers. Live TV can be a challenging environment at times, but we always had each other’s backs. Frank was the consummate professional — I never saw him fazed or flustered on air.
Warrick, who began his career in radio, at Toowoomba’s 4GR, also presented of Seven’s documentary series, The World Around Us, for many years and was quizmasetr on the national The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime program, and read the news on Channel 9.
Seven News sports presenter Pat Welsh told the ABC that Warrick was the ultimate professional.
“I’ve never met someone so single-minded about the job that he did. He was a very professional news gatherer as well, he broke several big stories around Queensland at the time.”
Both Seven and Nine broadcast tributes to Warrick on Tuesday night.
