Ray Hadley, the top-rating 2GB announcer who was for many years heard on 4BC, has retired.
His announcement today, precipitated by word that the news had leaked to journalist Samantha Maiden, shocked listeners (and put paid to a theory that his show may be heard on 4BC again).
Hadley said, “My own four children made many sacrifices for me over the years, allowing me to realise my ambitions, and I want to spend more time with them and my seven grandchildren. Sophie [his wife] has been the most supporting, calming, loving and amazing wife – and she deserves a break too!”
His announcement comes in the week his mentor, John Laws, retires from 2SM and the SuperNetwork.
It also follows a tumultuous few months for Nine Entertainment, which owns 2GB and is dealing with the fallout of an investigation into alleged bullying and sexual harassment across its brands.
Hadley’s final show will be on 2GB and its many affiliates on December 13.
Updates
In Brisbane media news, a source tells me the local news/opinion team is gone and InQueensland is now being produced in South Australia.
And in further Nine news it’s been announced (late Thursday) that Amanda Peterson, the Brisbane News boss, has left the company, a big day for media outlets making the news.
