Seven months after the death of colourful Brisbane identity Jack Karlson, a New Zealand comedian is releasing what promises to be a revealing and hilarious podcast about him.
You may remember that Karlson became internet famous a few years ago thanks to video of a Channel 7 News report recorded in October 1991 when reporter Chris Reason and his crew noticed an altercation in the Valley.
The filmed Karlson being pushed into a police vehicle by a couple of officers — and he wasn’t going quietly.
Addressing the TV crew, Karlson boomed: “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest”, then added: “What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?”
He also alleged that one of the officers had touched his penis.
Years later, somebody realised that the footage of Karlson being arrested was perfect fodder for social media, and a popular meme was born.
Before he died, Karlson spoke at length to Guy Williams, leading to a podcast, The Search for a Succulent Chinese Meal, which will begin on the New Zealand Today channel on Monday, February 17.
