I took this picture at Wynnum a few weeks ago, because I was wondering what the person was doing, and why the dog was so interested (although not enough to go slopping around in the wet mud).
My thought then, and now, is that the person may be collecting what we used to call eugaries or pippis: clam-like creatures that my uncle and others used to use as bait when fishing off the beach (although I’m told they are perfectly fine for human consumption too).
I have fond memories of swaying side to side, digging my feet further into the wet sand where the waves lapped on to the beach, until the shells emerged. But I also recall that some people had a pump-like device they used to extract them.
CHIPS AHOY
Also on my camera roll is this photo of some chips I bought at an almost-local fish and chippery.
They were great. A nice mix of slightly soggy ones and the overly crispy type. And, yes, those other things are potato scallops (not cakes or anything else).
Are these the best chips in Brisbane? Let me know …
BOB’S BACK
The pundits (including me) were wrong. 4BH hasn’t picked up 4KQ’s Laurel, Mark and Gary, they’ve offered the breakfast gig to Barbecue Bob Gallagher. Bob’s most recent on-air gig was with Robin Bailey and Terry Hansen on 97.3 (now Kiis). Congratulations to him, and to BH, for going local in that timeslot (and in the evenings with Scott Menz).
But the appointment raises the question: what’s happening to the former 4KQ brekkie team? We haven’t seen or heard the last of them.
By the way, pix from the party 4KQ held on its last night before the switch to SEN happened (on Thursday, June 30) reminded me how much radio talent we have in Brisbane. Not all those blasts are past it. It’s a shame there aren’t more gigs for them.
Who would you like to hear back on air?
