I made the point somewhere quite some time ago that Brisbane’s new “Metro” system will not be a metro. As in Paris and many other cities, a metro is an underground train network.
Brisbane’s new system will be a dedicated lane for bendy buses. It’s a Bus Rapid Transit system similar to one the BRT they have in Bangkok (it runs down Narathiwat road and is not to be confused with the BTS, or SkyTrain, or the MRT, which is a metro).
So, I’m happy to point you towards this excellent Brisbane Times story by Tony Moore and to endorse the suggestion made by Rail Back on Track’s Robert Dow that the new network be called Busway Electric Rapid Transit, or BERT.
It’s a memorable, whimsical name, that puts it up there with San Francisco’s BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), which also is a metro.
MEANWHILE …
Those of you who have subscribed to, or dipped into, my YouTube account will note that it has undergone a change of name.
Coincidentally, it is now named Radio Bert. Why? Because I want to broaden out the subject matter (the word “Brisbane” somewhat limits its scope, I’m afraid) and it occurred to me that what I am trying to create is more like radio than, says, TV or cinema.
By that I mean, it’s an assembly of segments that are different to each other in subject matter, but targeted at more or less the same audience.
I’m still finding my mojo — thus it has lots if videos in different styles, some of them (especially the silly shorts) making waves, others not so much.
I am not, nor will ever be, Steven Spielberg when it comes to visual production values, but I do hope the content there will appeal to the same kind of people who like whatever it is that I do here.
